NASA Releases Free E-Book About Contacting Aliens

It looks like E.T. isn’t the only one trying to phone home. NASA has released a free e-book, titled Archaeology, Anthropology, and Interstellar Communication, on the topic of ”establishing meaningful communication with an extraterrestrial intelligence.” In other words, NASA gives you the scoop on communicating with aliens. Though it’s written from an academic perspective (chapter titles like “Beyond Linear B: The Metasemiotic Challenge of Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligence” sound intimidating, to say the least), the tome means to engage the population with the history and challenges surrounding the search for alien life.
Want to read it for yourself? The e-book is available for download in MOBI, EPUB and PDF formats here

Addressing a field that has been dominated by astronomers, physicists, engineers, and computer scientists, the contributors to this collection raise questions that may have been overlooked by physical scientists about the ease of establishing meaningful communication with an extraterrestrial intelligence. These scholars are grappling with some of the enormous challenges that will face humanity if an information-rich signal emanating from another world is detected. By drawing on issues at the core of contemporary archaeology and anthropology, we can be much better prepared for contact with an extraterrestrial civilization, should that day ever come.
