The National UFO ALERT Rating System has been updated November 1, 2012, with California, Michigan, Arizona, Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Colorado moving to a UFO Alert 3 as the highest reporting states during the month of October 2012, filed with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
California was the leading high-reporting state in October with 83 cases, up from 69 cases filed in September and 75 in August.
Those states in a UFO Alert 4 category with 13 or more reports include: New York, South Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina.
All other states move to a UFO Alert 5 category with lower numbers of UFO activity. The Watch States - with 10 or more cases - are Kentucky, Georgia, New Jersey and Virginia.
MUFON released October statistics November 1, where the total number of reported UFO sightings is listed by state. The UFO Examiner uses these statistics to rate states. The entire country was moved back to the lowest alert level - UFO Alert 5.
California takes the lead with 83 cases; Michigan, 37; Arizona, 32; Texas, 31; Pennsylvania, 31; Florida, 27; and Colorado, 24 cases.
Those states with 13 or more reports, the next reporting tier level, are a UFO Alert 4 status: New York, 22; South Carolina, 19; Illinois, 18; Ohio, 16; Indiana, 16; and North Carolina, 15.
Our Watch States this month are - with 10 reports or more: Kentucky, 12; Georgia, 11; New Jersey, 11; and Virginia, 11 cases.
The sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape with 161 October reports; down from 246 in September and 238 August reports. Other shape reports include: Circle, 135; Star-like, 116; Disc, 90; Triangle, 81; Fireball, 69; Unknown, 66; Other, 63; Oval, 53; Cylinder, 47; Cigar, 37; Boomerang, 33; Flash, 30; Square/Rectangle, 25; Diamond, 16; Bullet/Missile, 15; Egg, 14; Chevron, 11; Teardrop, 11; Blimp, 8; Saturn-like, 7; Cone, 5; and Cross, 4.
The object's distance from the witness includes: Less than 100 feet, 72 cases; 101 to 500 feet, 83 cases; 501 feet to one mile, 173 cases; over one mile, 176 cases; unknown, 222; and no value stated, 15.
In addition, there were "26 landings, hovering, or takeoffs reported and 0 entities observed."
The most interesting UFO reports do not necessarily come from high reporting states - but those states with higher numbers do account for some of the most interesting evidence to study. While UFO sightings seem to pop up randomly around the country, this list is meant to offer a small insight into where Americans are filing reports.
