UFOs Appearing in West Texas (Video)
UFO Conferences: “They” Are Watching
In the late 1970s, the FBI was taking a keen interest in the research of a number of investigators of the cattle mutilation mystery and even went as far as dispatching agents to attend a conference on the subject that was held on 20 April 1979 at the New Mexico-based Albuquerque Public Library. A report to FBI headquarters from Albuquerque, dated 25 April 1979, outlined the flavor of the conference, and addressed the various opinions of those in attendance:
“Gabe Valdez, New Mexico State Police, Dulce, New Mexico, reported he has investigated the death of 90 cattle during the past three years, as well as six horses. Officer Valdez said he is convinced that the mutilations of the animals have not been the work of predators because of the precise manner of the cuts. Officer Valdez said he had investigated mutilations of several animals which had occurred on the ranch of Manuel Gomez of Dulce, New Mexico.
“Manuel Gomez addressed the conference and explained he had lost six animals to unexplained deaths which were found in a mutilated condition within the last two years. Further, Gomez said that he and his family are experiencing fear and mental anguish because of the mutilations.”
The FBI document on the conference turned its attention to the various and diverse lectures given by a range of additional speakers at the conference:
“David Perkins, the Director of the Department of Research at Libre School in Farasita, Colorado, exhibited a map of the United States that contained hundreds of colored pins identifying mutilation sites. He commented that he had been making a systematic collection of data since 1975, and has never met a greater challenge. He said, ‘The only thing that makes sense about the mutilations is that they make no sense at all.’
“Tom Adams of Paris, Texas, who has been independently examining mutilations for six years, said his investigation has shown that helicopters are almost always observed in the area of the mutilations. He said that the helicopters do not have identifying markings and they fly at abnormal, unsafe, or illegal altitudes. Dr. Peter Van Arsdale, Ph. D., Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, University of Denver, suggested that those investigating the cattle mutilations take a systematic approach and look at all types of evidence is discounting any of the theories such as responsibility by extraterrestrial visitors or satanic cults.”
And as the FBI also noted: “Richard Sigismund, Social Scientist, Boulder, Colorado, presented an argument which advanced the theory that the cattle mutilations are possibly related to activity of UFOs. Numerous other persons made similar type presentations expounding on their theories regarding the possibility that the mutilations are the responsibility of extraterrestrial visitors, members of Satanic cults, or some unknown government agency.
“Tommy Blann, Lewisville, Texas, told the conference he has been studying UFO activities for twenty-two years and mutilations for twelve years. He explained that animal mutilations date back to the early 1800’s in England and Scotland. He also pointed out that animal mutilations are not confined to cattle, but cited incidents of mutilation of horses, dogs, sheep, and rabbits. He also said the mutilations are not only nationwide, but international in scope.
“Chief Raleigh Tafoya, Jicarilla Apache Tribe, and Walter Dasheno, Governor, Santa Clara Pueblo, each spoke briefly to the conference. Both spoke of the cattle which had been found mutilated on their respective Indian lands. Chief Tafoya said some of his people who have lost livestock have been threatened.”
Moving on from cattle mutilations, from 1992 and 1993, come other examples of official interest in monitoring conferences that had UFO themes or connections. For example, American military intelligence personnel were in attendance at the first European meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration, which was held on August 7-8, 1992, in Munich, and that had the UFO subject on its agenda.
A three-page document pertaining to the conference, originally classified at Secret level, was made available to me under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act by the Defense Intelligence Agency in 1993. Its contents make for interesting reading:
“The expressed aim of the SSE meeting was to promote the exchange of ideas, results and goals among researchers in various fields of anomalies, and inform the public of the discussion among active scientists concerning current controversial issues. Papers and communications were in English, and German language abstracts of the various parapsychology (PS) papers presented were distributed at the beginning of the meeting.
“The conference sessions examined PSI and other extraordinary mental phenomena, crop circles (were they messages or hoaxes), geophysical variables and their influences on human behavior, astro-psychology, the Earth and unidentified flying objects (UFO), and additional highlights, to include near death experiences (NDE).”
Similarly, on 8 October 1993, following a routine FOIA request submitted to the Defense Intelligence Agency, I received a number of UFO records that had then recently been declassified by the State Department. Notably, one of those documents – dated 1992 – dealt with an official reference to a UFO conference in China that was the subject of official interest to the American Intelligence community. According to the document:
“China Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) Research Organization hosts national conference in Beijing on 11 May. The organization hopes that China will be selected to host the first world UFO conference, which is scheduled for 1993. More than 200 Chinese researchers are attending the conference to study reports of flying saucers or ‘Fei Die’ in China. About 5,000 UFO sightings have been reported in China in the past 20 years.”
Copies of this document were forwarded to a number of departments within the American Government, Intelligence community and military, including the National Security Agency, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the CIA and the American Embassy in Beijing. Most notable of all, the DIA also flashed a copy of the report, via electronic signal, to the British Ministry of Defense’s Defense Intelligence Staff (DIS) in London, England. An integral part of the MoD, the DIS was created on 1 April 1964 out of the amalgamation of the pre-1964 service intelligence branches and the Joint Intelligence Bureau.
In 1989, Clive Neville of the MoD had informed me that: “…we are only interested in reported [UFO] sightings which occur in the airspace of the United Kingdom.” Therefore, this raises an important question: Why was the MoD’s Defense Intelligence Staff receiving official briefings relating to UFO conferences held on the other side of the world? Not surprisingly, the DIS refused to discuss this matter with me.
I could go on and on with numerous other examples that span 1952 to the 2000s. But, hopefully, the point has been made: sometimes, for officialdom to keep close tabs on what is going on with respect to both UFO activity and within the UFO research community itself, it’s not always necessary to scan the skies or monitor emails and phones. The old-fashioned way of simply covertly sitting in the audience at conferences works just as well…

In defence of the UFO subject

UFOs -The Evidence cannot be ignored.
I felt I just had to reply after seeing the article published by the
Sun newspaper dated the 7th of November 2012 submitted by Dr David Clarke(whom I immense
respect for) ‘CLOSED ENCOUNTERS OF THE
THIRD KIND’ which is not intended as criticism but to allow me the
opportunity of at least putting the
record straight.
As a retired Police Officer who served for nearly 30years in the West
Midlands Police Force, I have to say that I have no recollection of any UFO
sightings brought to my attention during that time. If somebody had, I would
have considered them candidates for psychiatric help or suffering from
delusions, or the worse for drink.
In 1995, my son now a Detective Inspector but then a Police Constable
and his female colleague witnessed a saucer shaped object hovering over a tree
in Stirchley Birmingham, following a report from members of the public which
included a Doctor of an unidentified object seen moving across over the City
Centre.
Up to then I was sceptical of such matters but decided out of
curiosity to conduct my own research into the subject wondering if I would find
any evidence of such phenomena. I spent the next 15 years unearthing original
sighting reports from members of the public along with my partner Dawn Holloway,
speaking to
people who had reported seeing something highly unusual. As far as I
remember out of all those thousands of people which included many retired RAF
pilots, who I have interviewed over the years not one of them ever claimed to
have seen any aliens or have been abducted.
All they wanted to tell me was what they had seen. What I made of it was
up to me.
It has taken us all of these years just to document on a day by day
basis, those events which are contained
in a number of books entitled Haunted Skies. Volume 1-6 and we only
just completed Volume 7 1978-1979 over 400 pages! In the early days many National newspapers
asked us for book and promised us a review so far this has not happened. As I
write this intending to form an answer to the article on line, I cannot help but
wonder if it will be published.
I have hundreds if not thousands of incidents relating to reports of
UFO activity, right up to 2000. They often fall into a number of different
categories, many people report seeing what they refer to as UFO displays,
followed by the occasion report of what appears to be a structured object In
addition to this I have come across many motorists who have been followed by
UFOs often along the borders of the County, rather than City. And then there are
others who claim to have suffered physical or mental trauma following what
appears to be exposure to the fields of energy that surround such
objects.
I don’t claim that Aliens or UFOs exist what I do claim is that there
is irrefutable evidence of phenomena which is more likely to be indigenous to
our Planet rather than the incursions of any extraterrestrial life force. I also feel that this evidence should be
preserved as forming a very important part of our Social history, and will
continue to do so if only to salute the courage of so many who have decided
often in the face of ridicule to tell us of the experiences. In my opinion they
surely exist if they didn’t the evidence would indicate otherwise. John Hanson

Science, Skepticism, and the Ancient Astronaut Debate

The year was 1898, and in a tomb located near Saqquara, Egypt, a 2000-year old relic was discovered that, to this day, shakes our concept of what the ancient world may have really been. While some would argue that the object in question here had been a very crude representation of a bird, by our modern standards it can only be likened to resembling one thing: an airplane.
As a researcher who gravitates more toward the skeptical center myself, I have often in the past found myself leaning more toward the notion that certain artifacts from the ancient world are abstract pieces of art, perhaps designed to vaguely resemble fish, birds, or other things in nature, which causes them to more closely resemble the more geometrically appeasing imagery associated with modern avionics and heavier-than-air flying craft. But with relics such as the Saqquara Airplane, chalking such curious ancient models up to being “birds” becomes a bit more difficult when looking at the mechanics of such an object (which we’ll examine more closely in a moment).
Altogether, it does seem that there is merit to the notion that ancient people may have harnessed far greater technology than most realize (or will accept) today. But does this line of thought also cater effectively to notions of intervention in ancient times, that occurred between early humans and beings from other worlds?
When we look at an object like the plane model discovered at Saqquara, it does become rather difficult to state that some knowledge of aviation hadn’t been implemented in the design for whatever this object was meant to represent. Obviously, the little model, constructed of wood, is not designed for achieving flight itself, let alone doing so in a way that would be efficient or practical for human travel. However, key features the object includes are that of a modern pusher-glider, capable of flying at slower speeds, when necessary. The shape of the wings on this model follow a curvature that points slightly downward at either tip, which is referred to in modern avionics as being reverse-dihedral. Again, we find that a number of modern aircraft implement this design, which supports maximum lift without further compromising the speed the craft is actually capable of traveling.
Such design attributes have prompted scale recreations of this craft, which in flight tests managed to prove that a proportionally larger model of this same design can indeed glide along very efficiently. Was this design merely stumbled onto by ancient thinkers? Could ancient Egyptian engineers have been planning modes of transportation that would carry them through the air, rather than on land? It is a remarkable prospect… and for many, such notions seem almost impossible to entertain, if not for the potential that such ancient minds were influenced by the technologies of others, who were perhaps not only further along in their technological advancement, but also from someplace other that here on Earth.
It would be true to say that modern science had debated the veracity of such claims for decades now; however, it is also accurate to state that, while mainstream academia does not support the notion of “Ancient Astronauts” visiting Earth, many of the fundamental questions regarding mysteries put forth and popularized by the “Ancient Aliens” camp remain unanswered just as well. Those who endorse ideas such as paleo-contact with extraterrestrials argue, with obvious merit, that there are many questions that remain about our ancient past, and that these mysteries no doubt could be better understood if innovative new ways of thinking were applied to their study. Those positioned among the academic skeptic side of things, on the other hand, will often discredit not only the claims of the Ancient Astronaut theorists, but also the questions themselves, arguing that for serious scientific inquiry to take place, we must first have serious subjects underlying them, and valid questions about these phenomenon. Hence, a majority of the mysteries pertaining to the ancient world remain hidden away, and even widely unknown to the majority of the academic world, left to be pondered by those heretical “miscreants” the likes of Giorgio Tsoukalos, Erich von Daniken, and others of the Ancient Aliens ilk.
Following an event called the Paradigm Symposium, which I hosted with my associate Scotty Roberts in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I am personally as skeptical as ever regarding the Ancient Astronaut theory. This does not mean that I doubt extraterrestrials could have visited in ancient times, or that I choose, like the majority of mainstream academia, to simply overlook the obvious presence of advanced technologies that existed in ancient times. Furthermore, coming to personally know Tsoukalos, von Daniken, and others, I find them hardly to be men lacking character or passion for what they study, as well as an obviously keen intellect that is applied to the mysteries they pursue. And for the most part, they are also far less touchy about the attacks leveled against them from “the other side” than the academic skeptics out there, who cling to their refusal to acknowledge the mysteries of our world with proud passion and exuberance.
But rather than taking the obvious presence of technology in our midst and saying that, since it could not have existed in ancient times… but it does… then we must be dealing with aliens (hey, that was almost a meme), I prefer instead to observe the information presently at our disposal, and then attempt to reconcile with it only through a focused decision not to come to premature conclusions. In the archaic sense of the word, the term skeptic hails back to a group of early Greek philosophers whose choice in abstinence from conclusion-drawing, they felt, would only grant them a more objective perspective of the phenomenon. There is indeed logic to this, in that once we commit to a particular line of thought (i.e. the “aliens” taught us how to do it), we will begin to move amidst relics from other portions of the ancient world, and then consider how this, too, might have been inspired by extraterrestrial intervention. Arguably, television programming geared toward such ideas often do a lot to assist in this sort of point-click thinking.
And thus, rather than watching the TV specials, or even reading all the popular books on the subject, it is fascinating to sit and talk with a person who advocates such ideas, and rather than choosing either to side with them, or to level attacks at them instead, simply listen to what they have to say, thus removed from the “sixteen-second sound byte” culture that modern television has popularized. There is incredible depth to the arguments many put forth regarding our ancient world, and the only truth we can adhere to, with certainty, is that we do not know what their mystery may entail. Those mysteries persist nonetheless, however, and therefore it is impossible for us to dismiss them, simply on the grounds that they may appear to defy our concept of what history “should be.” To do so is to engage in a willful dismissal of aspects of our ancient past that, without question, remain very real… and point to aspects of our progression as a civilization that have yet managed to elude us for centuries, or even thousands of years.

Prof Cox, who hosts the show with comedian Dara O'Briain, said he had hoped
to point the Jodrell Bank telescope at the planet Threapleton Holmes B after it
was discovered live on air last year and listen for signs of life.
But he claimed he was prevented from doing so because the Corporation was
concerned that a discovery of aliens could violate BBC regulations.
Speaking on the BBC Radio 6 Music breakfast show on Wednesday, Prof Cox said:
"The BBC actually said 'You can't do that. We need to go through the regulations
and health and safety and everything in case we discover a signal from an alien
civilisation'.
"[I said], you mean we would discover the first hint that there is other
intelligent life in the universe beyond Earth, live on air, and you're worried
about the health and safety of it?
"It was incredible. They did have guidelines. Compliance!"
The incident was not the only time that producers have failed to appreciate
the significance of a potential discovery of alien life, Prof Cox added.
The Stargazing Live team had considered filming a feature on Mars which would ask the audience to help search for signs of geological activity which could point to past or current life on the planet.
"Someone from the BBC said to me, 'Would there have to be a prize if someone discovered it?'" he said.
"[I said], what do you mean? You're going to say to someone: 'You discovered the first evidence for alien life beyond Earth, and here's a book voucher as well? You think that's going to make it better? Nectar points?'"
