UFO researcher to speak at Rio Rancho’s conference

By KRQE News 13

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Who said Roswell has the market cornered on UFOs? Rio Rancho will host the first New Mexico UFO Conference on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Sabana Grande Recreation Center. It will feature five speakers, including one Rio Rancho man who has an extensive collection of evidence on UFO reports including everything from declassified military reports to audio clips of air traffic control communications.
David Marler said he has researched UFOs for nearly 25 years. In his garage alone, he has 14 filing cabinets full of audio files, government files and newspaper clippings that date back to 1897.
“I don’t know what these things are, but based on almost 25 years of active investigation, there is enough smoke to indicate that there’s some fire,” Marler said.
In digging through all the headlines and images, Marler said many reports over the last 20 to 30 years describe triangular UFOs not the stereotypical “flying saucer.” At the conference Saturday, he said he plans to present his evidence and leave it up to the audience to decide what it all means.
“Whether you relegate UFOs to fact, fiction or folklore, I always come down to the simple premise, it’s part of our history,” Marler said.
He said, despite many nights camping outside, searching for UFOs, he has never spotted one himself.

Police investigate UFO spotted over Breckenridge

By 9News

SUMMIT COUNTY - Breckenridge Police say they are investigating reports of three "shiny" objects in the sky Friday morning.
"NORAD is not tracking any anomalies in that location. We are investigating," said Army Major Beth Smith, NORAD spokesperson.
Multiple people have called in to report the objects floating in the sky. The Summit County Sheriff's Office is also investigating.

Police have called the FAA. The FAA says they have not had any calls from the public regarding the sighting.
Witnesses say the objects would sometimes form triangles or straight lines across the horizon.
9NEWS reporter Matt Renoux said he doesn't believe the objects were drones or weather balloons, because the objects appeared stationary for as long as 15 minutes at times.
"They would just sit there... without moving an inch on our viewscreen in the camera," Renoux said during a 5 p.m. live report.
After about 15 minutes, a flash of light would appear and the "objects would take off across the mountain ridge," Renoux said.
A Utah television station reported Thursday about a similar incident happening in the Salt Lake City area.

UK Defence Intelligence suggests witnesses may have been exposed to UFO radiation

A witness to the UK’s most famous UFO sighting says he may be suffering from the effects of radiation, and in a recent press release, points out that a UK Defence Intelligence (DI) report suggests that he may have been exposed to UFO radiation. Meanwhile, the U.S. Air Force says they have lost his service and medical records from that time.

It was reported this week that the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has admitted that they will be releasing more UFO files, despite having said that they had already released all of their UFO files. This current revelation has been due to the efforts of John Burroughs, a military witness to the UK’s most famous UFO sighting.
Burroughs says he has been seeking official answers as to what he might have experienced that night in December, 1980 when he and others witnessed a UFO. At the time, Burroughs was a U.S. Air Force security officer stationed at RAF Bentwaters in Suffolk, which, along with nearby RAF Woodbridge, was on lease to the U.S. Air Force.
Since then he has had health problems and suspects that his UFO experience may have contributed to his condition. He says, “I have specific medical symptoms that are considered by some very knowledgeable people to be a fingerprint of a specific kind of radiation.”
It was actually a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA) he made in December that prompted the MoD to release these newly found UFO documents. However, coincidentally, the MoD did not actually post that information publicly until September 16, the day after Burroughs sent out a press release to many UK media outlets alerting them to his plight.
On the Mod’s weekly FOI responses site they posted a response to a letter by Andy Russell asking for the same files Burroughs was asking for, stating that they will release them, but it will take up to 9 months to process them first. Russell, a UK citizen, says he made the request after reading about Burroughs discussing the files at a talk in Sedona, Arizona.
Burroughs also discussed another intriguing UK UFO document that regards him specifically, and his medical issues. In December 2000, UK Defence Intelligence created a secret report regarding UFOs. It was titled, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in the UK Air Defence Region: Scientific & Technical Memorandum – No. 55/2/00. The memo was released to the public in 2006.
Burroughs points out that in Volume 2, on page F4, there is a discussion about the effects of “UAP radiation” on humans. UAP, or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, is a phrase used for UFO. It states, ” The well-reported Rendlesham Forest/Bentwaters event is an example where it might be postulated that several observers were probably exposed to UAP radiation for longer than normal UAP sighting periods.”
The document also noted the effects of “UAP radiation” in the next section:
An important fact is that the reported effects of (presumed) UAP radiation on humans is that it is quick-acting and remembered – although, curiously, following the event there is little or no recall of events as a continuum. In short, the witness often reports an apparent ‘gaps’ or ‘lost time’ – often not accounting for up to several hours.
This section of the DI memo was shocking to Burroughs. He suffers from congenital heart failure, and suspects it has something to do with his years of service. Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services denied his claim in 2012 and told him there was no record of him being in the Air Force in 1980. They said his military records began in 1982. He had actually joined in 1979. In fact, he had to work with Arizona Senator John McCain’s office to get his records corrected. As reported by Billy Cox of the Herald Tribune, Burroughs was told by a McCain staffer, “It took a yeoman’s job to get your DD214 corrected, but we may never be able to gain access to the missing USAF medical records from 1979 to 1983.”

Another witness to the events, James Penniston, is having similar problems receiving his medical records. They believe their files have been deliberately tampered with.
Burroughs is frustrated by the whole affair, and continues to seek to get the UK and US governments to release what they know about the Rendlesham Forest incident.
He is also very concerned that he, as a witness/victim, has had to do all of this research on his own. In particularl, he wonders why researchers, such as Dr. David Clark, who helped get some of these files released and aided the UK National Archives with talking points on the UFO file releases, did not spot some of this.
Burroughs says, “Clarke was able to pick out information on key cases such as Rendlesham, offering for public understanding that the MOD thought the issue was settled, but did not include the part where they said observers experienced radiation and other side effects at Rendlesham.”
Burroughs says he realizes, “[The radiation] is not proof that the phenomenon encountered is extraterrestrial in origin, but it suggests the possibility. I am not saying I know what the phenomenon was that we encountered. Only that it was.”
You can read more about this topic and the Rendlesham incident in the book Encounter in Rendlesham Forest, authored by Nick Pope, former MoD UFO investigator, with Burroughs and Penniston.

Mystery hangar and UFOs in Moriarty point back to one thing: Google

By KOB4

Norm Bishop has lived near the Moriarty Airport for 23 years, and he's never seen anything like it.
"I looked over here and I saw it coming directly at me. As it flew over me, I couldn't see anything. No sound whatsoever. I could see its silhouette, and of all I could see, it was just a wing. No fuselage; no vertical tail," Bishop said.
"I wouldn't say it was from out of space, but [it was] an unidentified flying object. I had no idea what it was."
But the unidentified object isn't his only concern with the strange things happening the airport.
He's seen the modest hangars there for years, but wants to know what the huge building, with the sign out front warning of snakes, is doing there, aside from blocking the view of his favorite mountain.
"Right above that hangar out there, you'll notice there's a little mountain," Bishop said. "I used to love the view of the mountain, but my mountain is gone."
But KOB dug around and found a sign:
"Welcome Google."
Turns out, Google bought Titan Aerospace in Moriarty back in April, and will be building, researching and testing drones at the airport.
The big hangar, the lack of his favorite view and the "UFO" - all Google.
The Google operation is expected to create more than 200 new aviation and aerospace jobs.

Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence: What Really Happens If We Find Aliens?

If we trip across life that’s not of this world, do we blast it or befriend it? What impact would it have on our society?
This was the topic of a two-day symposium held at the John W. Kluge Center of the Library of Congress this month. Several dozen researchers — astronomers, philosophers, theologians, biologists, historians, and other tweed-jacketed specialists — opined on what might happen should we find we’re not alone.
A lot of the discussion, unsurprisingly, was about discovering life that’s intelligent. This prompted a symposium leitmotiv that was dished out repeatedly: when thinking about aliens, beware of anthropocentrism. In other words, don’t assume that they will be similar to us ethically, culturally, or cognitively.
Well sure, I can get down with that. I agree that we tend to view everything in the universe through the prism of our own natures. Mind you, I note that the squirrels in my front yard seem to do the same. They’re awfully squirrel-centric. That ensures that they attend to activities that are truly important (mostly acorn management). I don’t think less of them for that.
Where this leitmotiv became more than a neo-Greek caution against hubris was when it was used to argue that SETI (the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) is fatally flawed. We were told that our hunt for aliens assumes that they are like us. That kind of provincial attitude, it was said, will doom SETI to endless frustration. If we don’t think outside our own biological box, we’ll fail to find any company in the cosmos.

But wait a minute: That’s akin to arguing that the 1976 Viking landers — with their complex instrumentation for sensing microbial Martians — were a clear non-starter because they were sensitive to carbon-based metabolism; in other words, life as we know it. Well, that’s true, but it was really hard to design experiments that were good at finding life as no-one-knows-it.
Actually, when it comes to SETI experiments, we try not to make assumptions about the aliens’ cultural, ethical, or even biological makeup. We don’t assume they are similar to us. Rather, we assume that their physics is similar to ours — that they use radio transmitters or lasers to send information from wherever they are to wherever they need it. That’s no more anthropocentric than assuming that — if aliens use ground transportation — at least some of it is on wheels.
Anthropocentrism is always a bugaboo, but to say that it might irretrievably cripple our efforts to find evidence for intelligence elsewhere is certainly arguable. So let’s consider that SETI experiments are not as myopic as some would aver. The big question then becomes, what happens if we pick up a ping?
First, allow me to dispense with the false, but nonetheless ever-popular idea that the public wouldn’t be told. That’s goofier than Big Bird, and easily disproved by a cursory reference to SETI’s occasional false alarms. This paranoid idea probably derives from the widespread claim that 67 years ago some wayward aliens made a dismaying navigational error, and piloted their craft into the dirt near Roswell, New Mexico. The fact that this event is not the subject of much investigation by research scientists is often explained as the consequence of a government cover-up. The feds don’t want you to know about extraterrestrials.
One could make the same argument about the lack of academic interest in leprechauns. Maybe the Irish government is hiding the bodies. I don’t find that a compelling argument. But I think the popular notion of secret evidence sparks the mistaken belief that a SETI detection would be hushed up. It won’t be.

Of greater relevance to the subject of this symposium — preparing for discovery — was what would the signal reveal? What could we learn about the senders’ construction or culture?
The most plausible answer is “not much.” Just as hearing a rustle in the forest provides precious little information on the flora or fauna that caused it, so too would an alien ping be largely uninformative, at least at first. There might be an accompanying message, but new and different instruments would be required to find it.
What we could learn quickly are a few, mostly astronomical facts, to wit: (1) How far away is their solar system; (2) What type of star do they orbit? (3) The length of their day and their year.
That might be it for a while. And “a while” would be years, at minimum.
If we find intelligent beings elsewhere in our galaxy, you’ll not be quickly confronted with complex philosophical problems of understanding their mode of thinking or their biological blueprint — or even knowing whether they are biological. You won’t be misled by anthropocentric thinking, because there will be precious little information about whether they’re like us or not. For years, all we’ll be able to say is that there’s something out there that’s at least as technologically competent as we are.
But of course, that’s still saying a lot.

Britain’s X-traordinary Files – Declassified

By Nick Redfern

Out, right now, is the brand new book from David Clarke: Britain’s X-traordinary Files. As you may guess from its title, the book deals with British Government records on an astonishingly wide and varied body of paranormal phenomena. Most readers of Mysterious Universe will, I’m sure, know that over the years various arms of the British Ministry of Defence investigated reports of UFOs in the nation’s airspace.
What Dave Clarke’s new book demonstrates, however, is what else the world of officialdom has had in its sights over the years. Some of it, as now-declassified files reveal, was not just weird. It was what we might term beyond weird. Dave is to be applauded for having spent who knows how many hours at the U.K. National Archives, digging around for material on the kinds of things that used to make Fox Mulder drool.
I read the approximately 200-page book across three sittings, and a fascinating study of real life X-Files it certainly is. I think it’s pretty fair to say that when it comes to the world of the British Government and the unexplained, most people assume it began and finished with flying saucers, UFOs, and the like. Not so. In fact, the exact opposite.

Safety goggles are for the weak

Dave demonstrates the sheer diversity of material – which extends back not just decades but centuries. So, with that all said, where should I start? Well, I’ll begin with my favorite section of the book. Namely, that of officialdom’s interest in the domain of “death rays.” Welcome to the world of a certain Harry Grindell-Matthews, otherwise known as the “Death Ray Man.”
To say that Grindell-Matthews was quite a character is an understatement. His is a story in which secret files, alleged fantastic technologies developed by the Germans, and even Winston Churchill, pop up! We also get to hear of other rumors and tales of death ray technology reportedly studied by officialdom – to varying degrees.
Britain’s ABCs – the mysterious “Alien Big Cats” that have roamed the land for so long – are covered too, specifically in terms of the government ‘s (somewhat reluctant) response to the phenomenon. As is the nation’s most mysterious of all unknown animals – the Loch Ness Monster, which, as Britain’s X-traordinary Files demonstrates, has been the topic of far more than a few official dossiers over the decades.
The curious and secret saga of how the British Police Force – during the Second World War – found itself caught up in the controversy of dowsing (or water-divining) is told , as is the fascinating story of Britain’s very own 1970s-era wave of mysterious helicopters.

What could possibly go wrong

Many people will have heard of encounters with “phantom helicopters” and “black helicopters” in the United States. Far less, I’m sure, will know the intriguing story of how Britain’s Ministry of Defence and Special Branch found themselves immersed in the puzzle – as a big wad of previously-classified files clearly demonstrate.
The idea that British Fire Brigade papers might exist on violent poltergeist activity in 1960s London sounds like something straight out of one of those old, Hammer-horror movies of decades long gone. Not so. As Dave shows, truth really is weirder than fiction.
If you know the 1964 story of Jim Templeton, the Solway Spaceman, and Templeton’s run-in with a pair of very odd Men in Black, you’ll be very pleased to know that this case (one with a definitive refusal to die) is focused on heavily, too.
Add to that official files on (a) sightings of sea serpents; (b) witchcraft trials; (c) British Intelligence dabbling in the world of the occult, as it sought to defeat Hitler’s hordes; and (d) a wealth of additional mysteries that occupied, mystified, and sometimes fascinated the world of government, military, and the intelligence service of the British Government, and you’ll find yourself immersed in a book quite unlike any other.
