National UFO Alert: Seven States Report 265 October Cases
By Roger Marsh
The National UFO ALERT Rating System has been updated November 1, 2012, with California, Michigan, Arizona, Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Colorado moving to a UFO Alert 3 as the highest reporting states during the month of October 2012, filed with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
California was the leading high-reporting state in October with 83 cases, up from 69 cases filed in September and 75 in August.
Those states in a UFO Alert 4 category with 13 or more reports include: New York, South Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina.
All other states move to a UFO Alert 5 category with lower numbers of UFO activity. The Watch States - with 10 or more cases - are Kentucky, Georgia, New Jersey and Virginia.
MUFON released October statistics November 1, where the total number of reported UFO sightings is listed by state. The UFO Examiner uses these statistics to rate states. The entire country was moved back to the lowest alert level - UFO Alert 5.
California takes the lead with 83 cases; Michigan, 37; Arizona, 32; Texas, 31; Pennsylvania, 31; Florida, 27; and Colorado, 24 cases.
Those states with 13 or more reports, the next reporting tier level, are a UFO Alert 4 status: New York, 22; South Carolina, 19; Illinois, 18; Ohio, 16; Indiana, 16; and North Carolina, 15.
Our Watch States this month are - with 10 reports or more: Kentucky, 12; Georgia, 11; New Jersey, 11; and Virginia, 11 cases.
The sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape with 161 October reports; down from 246 in September and 238 August reports. Other shape reports include: Circle, 135; Star-like, 116; Disc, 90; Triangle, 81; Fireball, 69; Unknown, 66; Other, 63; Oval, 53; Cylinder, 47; Cigar, 37; Boomerang, 33; Flash, 30; Square/Rectangle, 25; Diamond, 16; Bullet/Missile, 15; Egg, 14; Chevron, 11; Teardrop, 11; Blimp, 8; Saturn-like, 7; Cone, 5; and Cross, 4.
The object's distance from the witness includes: Less than 100 feet, 72 cases; 101 to 500 feet, 83 cases; 501 feet to one mile, 173 cases; over one mile, 176 cases; unknown, 222; and no value stated, 15.
In addition, there were "26 landings, hovering, or takeoffs reported and 0 entities observed."
The most interesting UFO reports do not necessarily come from high reporting states - but those states with higher numbers do account for some of the most interesting evidence to study. While UFO sightings seem to pop up randomly around the country, this list is meant to offer a small insight into where Americans are filing reports.
UFO Sightings In Ladakh Spook Indian Soldiers
By Sandeep Unnithan
Units of the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) have reported Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOS) in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. An ITBP unit based in Thakung, close to the Pangong Tso Lake, reported over 100 sightings of luminous objects between August 1 and October 15 this year. In reports sent to their Delhi headquarters in September, and to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), they described sighting "Unidentified Luminous Objects" at day and by night. The yellowish spheres appear to lift off from the horizon on the Chinese side and slowly traverse the sky for three to five hours before disappearing. These were not unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS), drones or even low earth-orbiting satellites, say Army officials who have studied the hazy photographs taken by ITBP.
Drone sightings are verified and logged separately. The Army has reported 99 sightings of Chinese drones between January and August this year: 62 sightings were reported in the western sector, the Ladakh region, and 37 in the eastern sector in Arunachal Pradesh. Three of these drones intruded into territory claimed by India along the 365-km-long border with China in Ladakh, manned by ITBP. Such mysterious lights have been sighted before in Ladakh, a barren, 86,000 sq km heavily militarised zone wedged between Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and Chinese-occupied Aksai Chin. The persistent sightings by the ITBP this year, however, worried the Army's Leh-based 14 Corps. The ITBP, did not respond to a detailed India Today questionnaire.
In September, the Army moved a mobile ground-based radar unit and a spectrum analyser-that picks up frequencies emitted from any object-to a mountaintop near the 160-km-long, ribbon-shaped Pangong Lake that lies between India and China. The radar could not detect the object that was being tracked visually, in dicating it was non-metallic. The spectrum analyser could not detect any signals being emitted from them. The Army also flew a reconnaissance drone in the direction of the floating object, but it proved a futile exercise. The drone reached its maximum altitude but lost sight of the floating object.
In late September this year, a team of astronomers from the Indian Astronomical Observatory at Hanle, 150 km south of the lake, studied the airborne phenomena for three days. The team spotted the flying objects, Army officials say, but could not conclusively establish what they were. They did, however, say that the objects were "non celestial" and ruled out meteors and planets.
Scientists however say, the harsh geography and sparse demography of the great Himalayan range that separates Kashmir Valley from Ladakh, lends itself to unusual sightings. "The region is snowbound in winter, has few roads and is one of the most isolated places in India," says Sunil Dhar, a geologist at the government Post Graduate College in Dharamshala, who has studied glaciers in the region for 15 years.
Yet, none of the experts from the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO)-in charge of technical intelligence-and Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), has been able to identify the objects. This has caused embarrassment rather than fear in the establishment. "Something is clearly wrong, if our combined scientific resources can't explain the phenomena," says a senior Army official in Delhi. Intelligence officials say these objects could be a crude psychological operation by China, or sophisticated probes attempting to ascertain India's defences in Ladakh.

"We can't ignore these sightings. We need to probe what new technology might have been deployed there, says former Indian Air Force (IAF) chief Air Chief Marshal (retired) P.V. Naik. In 2010, the IAF probed and dismissed Army sightings of such luminous objects as Chinese lanterns. UFO sightings have been endemic to Ladakh over the past decade. In late 2003, 14 Corps sent a detailed report on sightings of luminous objects to Army headquarters. Army troops on posts along Siachen had seen floating lights on the Chinese side. But reporting such phenomena risks inviting ridicule. When told about them at a northern command presentation in Leh, the then army chief, General N.C. Vij, had angrily dismissed the reports as hallucinations.
Scientists say the mysterious objects are not necessarily from outer space. There is no evidence of UFOS being of extra-terrestrial origin, says reputed Pune-based astrophysicist Jayant Narlikar. The implication of them being alien objects is fancy, not fact, he says.
There is still no explanation, however, for what is believed to be the clearest UFO sighting yet, in the Lahaul-Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh less than 100 km south of Ladakh in 2004. A five-member group of geologists and glaciologists led by Dr Anil Kulkarni of the ISRO's Space Applications Centre in Ahmedabad were on a research trip through the barren Samudra Tapu Valley. They filmed a fourfoot tall robot-like figure, that walked along the valley, 50 m away from them. The humanoid object then rapidly became airborne and disappeared. The encounter lasted 40 minutes.

It was seen by 14 persons including the six scientists. Kulkarni then interviewed each expedition member separately to verify what the team had seen. Copies of his detailed report were circulated to the PMO, ISRO, the Army and several intelligence agencies. Kulkarni established his team hadn't seen natural phenomenon. The matter, however, was buried soon after.
Sunil Dhar, who was part of the 2004 expedition, terms the sighting of the unidentified object an unforgettable experience. Locals, he says, have reported sighting mysterious objects for many years. These are unsolved mysteries that need more intensive study, he says. Left unexplained, the Ladakh sightings risk slipping into the crack between fact and science fiction.

"I really don't think that it’s attracted to the ground because it's pretty high up there and it's not moving at all," said El Cajon resident Michael Kayler. "There's got to be wind current up there."Photographer: Courtesy 10news.com
It turns out that a neighbor named Todd had spent $300 on balloons, helium and lights. He had the entire contraption on fishing line. The lights were more than 4,000 feet in the air.
"[It's] a 'TFO'… Todd's flying object," he said.
It is unclear if Todd will get in to trouble for the lights. He said he put them up all in good fun.

Sadly, no details are given on this sighting by the submitter.
We only know that the video allegedly shows a fleet of UFOs over the state of Hawaii, and if it is legitimate it is a great piece of footage.
We are showing only part of the video below. The clip runs over 7 minutes and can be seen in its entirety at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW_81RrXo0w. See what you think about this one.
Antarctica’s subglacial lake could aid in the search for extraterrestrial life
In the search for extraterrestrial life, scientists focus their search on “life as we know it.” And “life as we know it” requires water. But to better understand extreme conditions in which life might exist elsewhere in the universe, scientists are exploring an ancient lake beneath an Antarctic glacier.
A team comprised of British scientists and engineers plan to drill through nearly two miles of solid ice to reach the subglacial Lake Ellsworth to “search for life forms in the water and clues to past climate in the lake-bed sediments,” according to the project’s website.
CNN explains that scientists believe this lake, and others like it, “could be home to micro-organisms unknown to science, potentially holding secrets to the origins and limits of life on Earth.” And by learning about these micro-organisms, scientists could expand their understanding of “the possible conditions for extraterrestrial life, in locations such as the bodies of water thought to exist beneath the surfaces of icy moons of Saturn and Jupiter.”
The team spent the past sixteen years developing this project. Drilling is scheduled to begin in December 2012, at which time one-hundred hours of non-stop, hot-water drilling will take place. When the deep hole to Lake Ellsworth is complete, the team has only twenty-four hours to sample the lake before the hole re-freezes.

The Best Night Vision for Spotting UFOs
As the average UFO spotting enthusiast knows, it can be a little more difficult than just picking up your favorite pair of binoculars or telescope and driving out to a hot spot and scouring the sky for flying mysteries. Generally, unless it happens to be a very well lit night from a full or near full moon, you will not be able to see anything. This is because binoculars and telescopes are simply ways of magnifying only what our human eyes are capable of. And simply put, humans do not see in the dark very well. So what can be done to remedy this and allow for a way to spot UFO’s in a bitch black or extremely dark environment? The answer is simple, increase how much can be seen by the human eye, or in other words, find a way to see in the dark.
Fortunately for UFO hunters and many other types of people, the technology for seeing in the dark has been around for quite some time. As it is so popularly called, night vision devices or night vision goggles, have gotten to the point where the technology is old enough and thus the price is cheap enough that anyone with a credit card can order a set or piece of night vision technology for a relatively cheap price.
The problem is though that not all night vision devices are equal despite some people thinking they are. The fact is that there are two completely different ways in which night vision works; and they both have to deal with the capture of the light in the infrared wavelengths. The first and most common way is by enhancing what light is available (including that outside of human perception, i.e. some of the infrared spectrum) and amplifying it until human eyes can see it, the second focuses on capturing a thermal image through the main infrared spectrum.
Image enhancement takes what available light there is, and through a process of specialized plates and filters, gets focused then amplified through a special screen, the last screen in fact is what changes the image that cannot be seen by human eyes into one that can, and because of its composition it gives the image the highly recognizable green shading. The process of boosting and magnifying the image, as with any optical device not just night vision, the image that gets output becomes more and more distorted the more it is magnified beyond its original form. Thus with these types of night vision devices, the images generated will be green and have a fairly grainy composition.
Thermal imaging devices work on an entirely different concept. Thermal imaging utilizes a special lens and sensor that capture the ‘image’ given off by the photons in the infrared wavelength spectrum. It actually is quite similar in how a digital camera works albeit having a different lens and sensor. The image it captures has to be converted using a special processor, but once it has, the image given is that of an inverted black and white negative where the lightest parts are the warmest and the darkest parts are the coolest.
As the technologies are right now, thermal imaging offers a crisper image with a much further range for viewing and is thus more expensive and better for more conventional purposes; however it does rely solely on thermal output for an image to appear. Image enhancing devices are generally cheaper and more easily available, and despite having a lower image quality, are generally better suited for finding since there is speculation that UFO’s might not always have an existent heat-signature. So using other means to detect them is more ideal if the sole way of detection through thermal imaging may be otherwise useless.
As far as image enhancing night vision devices go, there are multiple generations since the technology has been in existence since the World War II era. As the technology has changed over the years, they have been given different generational markers to denote the type of technology used. From generations 0 through 2, i.e. from WWII through the late 1970’s, the technology was more often than not sub-par. For all uses, the previous generation, generation 3 is the most cost-effective version of image enhancing night vision. While generation 4 is a very recent development, it still is quite more expensive than generation 3 and can be much more difficult to obtain. The advances in generation 4 from 3 are generally not big enough to be worth the strife of trying to obtain the newest version.
When planning your next UFO hunting trip, make sure you and your eyes are properly equipped with at least a generation 3 imaging enhancing night vision device. Doing so will guarantee the best chances at spotting and catching a UFO.
