Five highlights from the newly released MoD UFO files
UK’s National Archives published 6,785 pages on Thursday, July 12 from Ministry of Defence documents related to UFOs and extraterrestrials. This latest release is the ninth batch of UFO files to be released by the archives since 2008. Former Ministry of Defence (MoD) official UFO investigator Nick Pope told the Telegraph that this latest batch of released files is “absolutely fascinating” and it “contains a huge mixture of material that will be of great interest to anyone fascinated with UFOs.”
Twenty-five files make up these 6,785 pages, and the National Archives explains, “Topics include UFO policy, Parliamentary Questions, media issues, public correspondence, and UFO sighting reports.” The files include many interesting UFO sightings submitted to the MoD–some by pilots, police, and military officials. In case you don’t have the time or desire to read through 6,785 pages of documents, here are five highlights from the latest release:
- MoD’s UFO Desk. This latest release of files includes information about the Ministry of Defence’s “UFO desk.” Although many media outlets are reacting like this is the first mention of this post within the MoD, the UFO desk has been public knowledge for quite some time. Nick Pope, who is quoted in nearly every article related to UFOs in the UK, ran the MoD’s UFO desk from 1991 to 1994. However, the recently released information related to the UFO desk is mildly interesting. Documents detail the duties of the UFO desk officer, and the actual internal job posting for the position is in the files as well.
- The need for a full UFO study.A document contains a 1995 briefing by a UFO desk officer who cited the need for a “full study of UFO data as national security implications have never been properly assessed.” The officer states in the briefing, “The national security implications are considerable. We have many reports of strange objects in the skies and we have never investigated them.”
- MoD officer suggests capturing a UFO to gain its technology. In the briefing document mentioned above, this same UFO desk officer suggests capturing UFO technology for UK use. The officer states, “If reports are taken at face value then devices exist that do not use
conventional reaction propulsion systems, they have a very wide range of speeds and are stealthy. I suggest that we could use this technology, if it exists.” - Keeping tabs on ufologists. The files contain a copy of a 1996 Parliamentary Question from Martin Redmond MP asking if MI6 and GCHQ monitors UFO investigations, or keeps tabs on ufologists. The National Archives summarizes the response contained in the files, explaining that a background briefing says “neither agency in fact undertakes such activity, though GCHQ cannot rule out the possibility” they had monitored “in other contexts individuals who have made a study of UFOs.”
- Tony Blair’s UFO briefing.Former British prime minister Tony Blair was briefed on UFO documents. As the Metro explains, the MoD documents show “the former Labour leader was apparently concerned about information on the unidentified objects being released to the public, as a result of the impending Freedom of Information Act, so decided to find out what facts existed.” This came after author and researcher Nick Redfern urged him to “consider making available for public scrutiny all of the many and varied UFO reports compiled by the government.”
Amazing UFO Encounter in South Hampshire, England with Video
By Ufo Casebook
South Hampshire, England - August, 2011
(Editor's Note: I received several links associated with this report; one to the youtube video, which was "removed by user," and one to a web site that returned a "internal server error." Naturally, this made me somewhat suspect about the case.
But, considering my source, I decided to post it, and see what everyone thinks about it. When this occcured, one site had the foresight to download the video before it was removed.)
I am going to tell you now about a UK case that is truly and simply the best of its kind anywhere in the world EVER, yet few know about it.
I have been studying this now some time. Everything has also been thoroughly examined by the editor of the FSR, Britain’s oldest UFO journal, (to which our Royal Family even subscribes and has done since it launch in the late 50's), and we have been out on many sky watches with the people concerned in this report and seen strange things in their presence.
I have tried to tell various other groups about it, including MUFON representatives I have found on the net, but all have cold- shouldered me. I simply never get a reply.
I have told other eminent names in Ufology, such as Linda Moulton Howe, Farah Yurdozu and Nick Pope, never to receive a reply.
I have told several TV stations about it but all either ignored me or got a bit funny about the matter.
It's enough to make one think that smoking gun evidence about aliens and UFOs is somehow taboo and that many mainstream researchers are NOT in this subject for the truth, but rather for the fame and glory or something.
Read some of the story attached. See this video below which isn't computer generated. The reason there are no stars is that the camera is a Fujifilm Finepix DSLR and I have one of these myself and know that at night, on video, this budget camera simply will not pick up stars.
Its mechanism is not sensitive enough; unless a long exposure is used and then that's mainly for stills.
None of us are that up on cameras, it's all trial and error and auto focus setting with us.
The witness was bathed in colored light as he filmed this object. There were two of these originally, until its companion flew off, leaving this one to put on its fabulous display.
All the photos have been enlarged for ease of viewing and are not objects close to the lens.
All EXIF data has been professionally examined and shown to be original images.
I know the people involved. They are senior in age, really nice, humble, simple folk, and good family friends of myself and my partner.
They know little about computers above sending emails and surfing and they are definitely in contact with an alien race.
There is no doubt about it. I would wager the entire contents of my home on it. They categorically do not want any payment for their material and seek to remain anonymous for fear of ridicule and to protect their jobs of employment.
The contacts have included numerous detailed UFO photo opportunities, a face-to-face meeting with Nordic-type aliens in a highly remote woodland clearing, and various abductions by small fawn-colored beings.
These contactees have been keen Ufologists, active in the field for more than 40 years, out sky- watching several times a week in all weathers.
One of the witnesses was abducted on Dragon Hill, Wiltshire and taken COMPLETE WHILST HOLDING HIS CAMERA.
Whilst on board he was allowed to obtain images of the alien beings, and other shots, and was returned together with his camera.
The other witness even has shots of an unidentified planet, and many space shots showing nebulas, galaxies etc.
One of the UK's top astronomers was left stunned and in his 21 years of studying the sky, he said had never come across anything like it.
The images even rival those taken by the Hubble Space telescope. I wrote to NASA of course about this. They refused to answer me.
The downside to all of this is the witness’s burns and scars left from over exposure to the craft and their environments, together with what are believed to be medical experiments performed on them.
The witness claims that he has also fathered children on board the alien craft which he is occasionally invited to go and see.
Special thanks to Ken Parsons Researcher and Ufologist.
Tony Blair demanded MOD briefing on UFOs after member of the public suggested a cover-up over information on alien life-forms

Unaware Andy: Manchester United player Andy Cole was too

One confidential 1995 report by the defence official responsible for manning the desk says the presence of extra-terrestrial lifeforms is ‘possible’, although there is ‘no direct evidence’.
It also speculates on the reasons why aliens may be visiting Earth, including for military reconnaissance, scientific research, or just to enjoy the scenery and partake in some tourism.
The policeman claimed that he saw something ‘unlike anything I’ve seen before’ at Stamford Bridge while Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Cup quarter final replay.

Olympics would be a prime time for extraterrestrials to make an appearance
He said a ‘square to almond shape’ yellow object with four lights floated silently above his horse.
Another file describes a West Wales hotelier who saw a UFO landed in a field. Two ‘faceless humanoids’ in silver suits emerged and took measurements.
One of the UK’s top UFO experts, Nick Pope, who worked at the MoD for 20 years, investigated reports of UFOs between 1991 and 1994, and says he began his research as a sceptic, before becoming convinced that the sightings raised important defence for national security and air safety issues.
Mass summer events like the upcoming Olympic Games in London would be a prime time for crafts from other worlds to present themselves to mankind, according to Mr Pope.
Fiction to fact: With so many sightings, governing bodies are taking notice and
not discounting it as science fiction UFO expert Nick Pope says
He said: 'It has been a widely held belief in
Ministry of Defence circles that "aliens" have been able to detect us for
decades via TV and radio broadcasts.'What once seemed like science fiction is steadily being realised by central governing bodies as distinctly real.
'If aliens have studied our psychology, they may choose to appear in our skies on a significant date – the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games is one date being widely circulated by conspiracy groups.’
The Mowing Devil Mystery
By Nick Redfern
It’s a saga that many have heard of, but not so many know the story behind it. It’s the weird tale of the “Mowing Devil” – a strange legend that had its origins more than 300 years ago in England, and which has led to suggestions that Crop Circles have been with us for longer – far longer, actually – than many suspect. And it goes like this…
Jim Schnabel, Crop Circle researcher and author of the book Round in Circles, wrote that in 1989, Jenny Randles, a well-known British investigative writer on many things Fortean “…received a surprising piece of information from a local historian named Betty Puttick, from St. Albans, Hertfordshire [England]. Mrs. Puttick had just read Randles and [Paul] Fuller’s Controversy of the Circles, and it had reminded her of a seventeenth-century woodcut she had come across in a recent book on Hertfordshire folklore.”
Schnabel added, somewhat significantly, that the woodcut in question “…depicted a small, black, horned figure, scything down oatstalks along a circular path, leaving what appeared to be flaming stalks in his wake.”
It was dated 1678, and titled The Mowing-Devil: Or, Strange News out of Hartford-Shire. Written in the distinct (and very odd, as you’ll see!) style and spelling of the 1700s, it stated:
“In the said County lives a Rich industrious Farmer, who perceiving a small Crop of his (of about three Half-Acres of Land which he has sowed with Oats) to be Ripe and fit for Gathering, sent to a poor Neighbour whom he knew worked commonly in the Summer-time at Harvest Labour to agree with him about Mowing or Cutting the said Oats down.
“The poor man as it behoov’d [sic] Him endeavour’d [sic] to sell the Sweat of his Brows and Marrow of his Bones at as dear a Rate as reasonably he might, and therefore askt [sic] a good round Price for his Labour, which the farmer taking some exception at, bid him much more under the usual Rate than the poor Man askt [sic] for it: So that some sharp Words had past, when the Farmer told him he would Discourse with him no more about it.
“Whereupon the honest Mower recollecting with himself, that if he undertook not that little Spot of Work, he might thereby lose much more business which the Farmer had to imploy [sic] him in beside, ran after him, and told him that, rather than displease him, he would do it at what rate in Reason he pleas’d [sic]: and as an instance of his willingness to serve him, proposed to him a lower price, than he had Mowed for any time this Year before. The irretated [sic] Farmer with a stern look, and hasty gesture, told the poor man
“That the Devil himself should Mow his Oats before he should have anything to do with them, and upon this went his way, and left the sorrowful Yeoman, not a little troubled that he had disoblig’d [sic] one in whose Power it lay to do him many kindnesses.
“We will not attempt to fathom the cause, or reason of, Preternatural events: but certain we are, as the most Credible and General Relation can inform us, that same night this poor Mower and Farmer parted, his Field of Oats was publickly [sic] beheld by several Passengers to be all of a Flame, and so continued for some space, to the great consternation of those that beheld it.
“Which strange news being by several carried to the Farmer next morning, could not but give him a great curiosity to go and see what was become of his Crop of Oats, which he could not imagine, but was totally devour’d [sic] by those ravenous Flames which were observed to be so long resident on his Acre and a half of Ground.
“Certainly a reflection on his sudden and indiscreet expression (That the Devil should Mowe [sic] his Oats before the poor Man should have anything to do with them) could not but on this occasion come into his Memory. For if we will but allow our selves so much leisure, to consider how many hits of providence go to the production of one Crop of Corn, such as the aptitude of the Soyl [sic], the Seasonableness of Showers, Nourishing Solstices and Salubreous [sic] Winds, etc., we should rather welcome Maturity with Devout Acknowledgements than prevent our gathering of it by profuse wishes.
“But not to keep the curious Reader any longer in suspense, the inquisitive Farmer no sooner arriv’d [sic] at the place where his Oats grew, but to his admiration he found the Crop was cut down ready to his hands; and if the Devil had a mind to shew [sic] his dexterity in the art of Husbandry, and scorn’d [sic] to mow them after the usual manner, he cut them in round circles, and plac’t [sic] every straw with that exactness that it would have taken up above an Age for any Man to perform what he did that one night: And the man that owns them is as yet afraid to remove them.”
Somewhat intriguingly, the reference to the field being “all of a Flame” the night before the curious formation was found in the field, was highly reminiscent of a similar incident from 1964 that occurred in the north of England. During the early part of 1995, while digging through a then-recently-declassified collection of British Ministry of Defense files on UFOs that were held at the National Archive at Kew, England, I was startled to find the following letter, submitted to the MoD, via the National Physical Laboratory at Teddington, on March 23, 1964. The subject matter was a curious, circular area of flattened ground found on land in the town of Penrith, Cumbria, England.
The Reverend T.E.T. Burbury – who took a personal interest in the affair – wrote:
“Does an apparent column of blue light about eight feet in diameter and about fifteen feet high which disappears and leaves a mark of very slightly disturbed earth, the same diameter, mean anything to you? I examined the ground which is about one hundred yards from the nearest building and there are no pylons near. There was no sign of burning, either by sight or smell; the grass growing between the exposed ground appeared quite normal. There were no signs of bird tracks or droppings: the ground simply appeared to have been lightly raked over in an almost perfect circle.”
For its part, records revealed to me, the Ministry of Defense dismissed the case as having no bearing on the defense or safety of the British Isles and wholly forgot about the matter. But, how notable, I thought: a Crop Circle-style formation that was believed to be the work of the Devil had appeared in southern England in 1678 – the night before which the field in question was seen to be “all of a flame” – and almost three hundred years later, something of a strikingly similar nature occurred in the north of England.
Maybe Crop Circles really are much older than many assume…
